Clare's Independent TD has called for an independent investigation into the cause of a cluster of superbug infections at the region's main hospital.
It follows claims by a whistleblower that more than two dozen people have died at University Hospital Limerick as a result of drug resisitent infections.
UL Hospitals Group has since admitted that the bugs are a particular problem in the Midwest, but insists that while there have been 92 cases of CRE in the six year period running up to 2015, there have been no deaths since 2011.
The Hospital says HIQA recommendations on infection control have also been implemented, but Dr. Michael Harty doesn't believe this is enough.
