Clare’s Labour TD has called for a re-think in national guidelines for nursing homes, aimed at protecting patients’ privacy.
Deputy Michael McNamara says many residents in Clare’s public nursing facilities have told him they don’t want to stay in single or double rooms, as is policy under HSE guidelines.

Following a recently published HIQA inspection of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis, a spokesman for the executive said current budgetary pressures make it difficult to bring the facility up to scratch.
Deputy McNamara thinks the overall guidelines may not be appropriate, and are not in line with the wishes of many residents.
