A Clare TD says he makes no apologies for advocating on behalf of County Clare.

Fine Gael TD Joe Carey is commenting ahead of a Government announcement on its capital spending plan which will be made this lunchtime.

The Government is to announce its Capital Spending Programme this lunchtime which will see 30 billion euro being spent up until 2022.

But the annoucement has been given a cautious welcome by Clare's Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley who say he hopes its not an exercise in trying to hoodwink the electorate.

Clare Government TD, Fine Gael's Joe Carey hopes a number of announcements will be made for Clare today particularly relating to the upgrading of St Joseph's Hospital in Ennis.

Deputy Carey has dismissed comments that the annoucement is a political stunt

Funding has already been confirmed for the Shannon River Crossing project – which is aimed at easing daily traffic congestion in the twin heritage towns of Killaloe and Ballina.

The €40 million plan consists of the Shannon Bridge Crossing, the Killaloe bypass, and upgrading works costing €16.6m on the road linking Ballina and Birdhill.

Labour TD Michael McNamara is welcoming the announcement
