A Clare Mountaineer is among those paying tributes to Irish adventurer Ian McKeever who was killed on Mount Kilimanjaro.
The 42 year old died after being struck by lightening while leading a group on an expedition which was raising money for charity.
His fiancée and family say he died doing what he loved best.
Fellow climber Ian Taylor who runs Lahinch Seaworld also leads expeditions to Kilimanjaro and expressed his deep shock at his friend’s sudden death saying fatal lighting strikes there are completely unheard of.
He added that Ian McKeever constantly strived for more and wanted to show people that even if we are knocked down or have taken hits that we can bounce back up again
Ian McKeever was also a lecturer and broadcaster who regularly mentored hikers including children from schools across the county including here in Clare.
In 2011- pupils and staff from Ennistymon Vocational School went on an expedition with him to Kilimanjaro in August 2011
Teacher Una Kelly was among the group and says he was a huge inspiration
