The campaign against a ban on cutting turf on raised bogs moves to West Clare this evening.
A public meeting has been organised by local turf cutters concerned about the future use of Tullagher Lough and Bog near Doonbeg which is included in the list of conservation areas covered by the new EU environmental regulations.
The government says Ireland must comply with the ban and is offering compensation of up to 1,000 euro per year to those affected with funds expected to be allocated for the next 15 years.
But West Clare bog owners will meet in Garrihy’s Bar in Moyasta at 8 o’clock tonight to hear from Turfcutters Association PRO Deputy Luke Ming Flanagan who believes the offer should be rejected
