Clare householders are being warned that the county’s water supply remains vulnerable despite heavy rains over the weekend.
Clare County Council says a number of water conservation measures, including the hose pipe ban remain in place until further notice.
Clare experienced some heavy rain over the past few days, particularly over the weekend but the local authority says most water supply sources throughout the county remain at low levels while there is still a considerable soil moisture deficit.
While the coming days are set to be unsettled council officials say it will require significant rainfall in the medium term to replenish supplies.
A spokesperson for Clare County Council says the overall situation has improved slightly and while they appreciate the efforts being made by people, its too early to relax water restrictions – they include the hose pipe ban introduced in Ennis Tulla and North Clare a fortnight ago.
The ban will remain in place for the foreseeable future and the council is also urging residents and businesses alike to continue to conserve supply and use water wisely.
