Clare's live register figure has dropped to an eight year low.

It's after nearly 650 people left the dole queues here last month.

With September marking the traditional return to education, live register figures for the month have shown large drops in recent years.

This time around is now exception, with a fall of 645 bringing the total number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit here to 6,283.

This is down by 14%, or over 1,000, from the same time last year.

Unsurprisingly there has been a drop in each part of the county.

Ennis accounts for nearly two-thirds of the annual drop, with the number of people signing on in the town dropping below 3,500.

There have also been year-on-year falls of 142 in East Clare, 118 in West Clare and 109 in North Clare.
