The body recovered near the cliffs of Moher has been identified as that of missing Galway man Adrian Folan.
Mr Folan a 41 year old man, originally from Carraroe, had been living for some time in Athlone.
The single man was last seen in the County Westmeath town last Thursday and Gardaí had expressed concern for his welfare.
His remains were discovered by Ennistymon Gardaí at 7 o'clock this morning, as a result of information uncovered in the investigation in Athlone.
Mr Folan has been identified by a member of his family at University Hospital Limerick this eveninng and a post mortem is now underway.
The results of which are not expected before Tuesday
The scene at Moher remains sealed off this evening and Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact the incident room at Ennistymon Garda Station.
Separately a house in carraroe in Galway has also been sealed off as part of these investigations.
