Coastal Clare Urged To Batten Down The Hatches For Storm Eleanor

Coastal communities in Clare are being urged to batten down the hatches as the first storm of 2018 approaches our shores.

An orange weather alert is in place for the county, with Storm Eleanor expected to bring “damaging gusts” of up to 130 kilometres per hour between 4 o’clock this evening and 9 o’clock tonight.

Met Éireann’s also forecasting very high seas along the Clare coastline, including the Shannon Estuary, with a risk of coastal flooding.

Similar conditions were experienced in 2014, when land along the coast became submerged, but Senior Engineer with Clare County Council, Tom Tiernan has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that it’s hoped Storm Eleanor won’t have as strong an impact:
