Cold Water For Council Hopes Of Extra Government Funding

A Clare government Senator says Councillors here will have to live with their decision to cut the local property tax by 15%.

Fine Gael's Tony Mulcahy says public representatives took a popular decision on Friday – he feels the money should have been used to implement a rates cut for small and medium businesses.

If follows a majority vote of 17 to 10 voting in favour of reducing the charge, despite concerns from some that this will compromise services across the county.
