Commemerations to mark the 90th anniversary of the death the Scarriff Martyrs takes place in East Clare tomorrow.
They were four young men captured during the War of Independence following raids near Whitegate by the Auxiliaries and the Black and Tans in November 1920.
Michael Mac Mahon, Alfie Rogers and Martin Gildea who were members of the IRA’s East Clare Brigade along with Michéal Egan a civilian who provided a safehouse for the three were then taken to the Lakeside Hotel and tortured before being shot at the bridge in Killaloe.
