Commitment for Breastcheck Rollout for Clare

It’s been confirmed that the Breastcheck Service in County Clare will be rolled out in June of this year.

The matter was raised in the Dáil last night by Clare Fine Gael Deputy Joe Carey who received a commitment from Junior Minister Dara Calleary that the service would come on stream in the county in the next few weeks.

On Tuesday, it emerged that the Breastcheck Service rollout in counties Clare, Donegal and Leitrim had been put on hold due to the recruitment embargo in the public service.

The Breastcheck Service is a Government funded programme providing breast screening for women aged between 50 and 64 across the country.

Eleven counties so far have had the service rolled out…

The screening programme was due to come on stream in Clare in the near future but due to the recruitment embargo in the public service, everything was put on hold

Suitable candidates to run the Clare unit have already been identified and the funding is in place.

The revelations that the women of Clare would have to wait even longer for the service were greeted with outrage and anger among locals and patient advocates.

However, in the Dáil last night, the matter was raised by Clare Fine Gael Deputy Joe Carey who received assurances from Junior Minister Dara Calleary that the service will be rolled out by June this year in the county.
