Local retailers are said to be anticipating a good December after what’s been a very difficult number of years.

There’s been a pick up in trade across the retail sector over the past 12 months and it’s hoped that boost will continue a this, the buesiest time of the year.

Clare County Council has confirmed that there will once again be free parking in Ennis’s public car parks from 3pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from December 8th to January 10th.

Mayor of Ennis Paul Murphy says it leads to huge benefits for shoppers and businesses alike.

It’s one of a number of initiative being introduced by the local authority over the coming weeks to boost footfall in the town.

The town’s main street will also be pedestrianised – much of O’Connell Street will be closed to traffic from midday until 6pm over the last two pre-Christmas weekends, while this weekend sees special late night shopping incentives.

It’s hoped the initiatives will lead to increased footfall and Ennis Chamber President William Cahir is encouraging people to rediscover our local businesses.
