Clare’s Senator has criticised the Government for failing to act on concerns raised in relation to grants for the elderly.
Martin Conway claims the housing aid for older people and housing adaptation grants have been abused by people who have used the money gained from it to refurbish homes.
He says these properties are more valuable after this taxpayer-funded investment, and wants the scheme reviewed so that a portion of the money is recouped in the event that the property is sold or rented by the owner’s family after they die or move out.

The Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator made his call to review the scheme last year, but has yet to get a response from the Housing Minister, and is still pushing for a comprehensive review.
