Clare County Council says it is waiting for the National Roads Authority to give it the green light to carry out detailed design works aimed at improving safety issues on a so-called ‘ugly’ mile of the main Ennis-Ennistymon road.
The local authority begins maintenance works on the route this week, including new signage warning motorists of reduced speed limits in an area near Kilnamona Cross where locals say accidents are a weekly occurrence.
However, preliminary work on a more comprehensive project have already been carried out, but the wait is now on for the NRA to provide money for this to proceed further.
Senior Roads Engineer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan is hopeful of progress on this in the near future.
