Council Calls For Clarification On Rural Water Funding

Clare County Council has requested Irish Water and the Government to outline their plans to fund the provision of water services in rural areas.

Councillors are querying how the government plans to fund group and public sewerage schemes as the revenue collected from domestic water charges was originally earmarked for this.

Other groups, including the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association, have questioned the logic of having people in urban areas not paying for water while those on schemes are required to pay for the service.

Bodyke based Fine Gael Councillor Joe Cooney who proposed the motion says Irish Water’s responses up to now have not been good enough.
