The government is facing calls to scrap a bill of nearly quarter of a million euro that it’s looking to levy on Clare County Council.
The bill covers the Local Property Tax for homes owned by the local authority, and will cost €90 per house or a total of €226,000 next year.
The Council could add a levy to Local Authority rents to cover this – as is already the case in Galway and Limerick – but members of its Housing Committee have opposed this move.
