Council insists removal of diving equipment necessary

There’s widespread criticism following the removal of  diving boards and ladders from several locations in Kilkee this week.

Clare County Council took the action due to health and safety concerns and has requested Irish Water Safety to conduct a risk assessment regarding the equipment in the West Clare seaside town.

Two diving boards and two ladders have been taken away at the Pollock Holes while a further three ladders have been removed from Burns Cove, Edmonds Point and Georges Head.

Clare County Council has stated that the any decision to reinstate the equipment would be made pending the outcome of the risk assessment.

However local representatives claim that the removal of the boards and ladders will have a detrimental affect on tourism in the area.
