Gusts of up to 120 kilometres per hour are forecast tomorrow afternoon, evening and early night.

Ahead of the storm, heavy rains have already hit the county.

Gardaí in all areas are warning of surface water and debris, though no major routes are affected here.

Meanwhile, on the River Shannon, today, the ESB has kept the amount of water being discharged through Parteen Weir at existing levels, but has warned that the flow of water is likely to increase in the coming days due to the weather forecast.

Update – Clare County Council has issued the following warning at 1:00 today (Monday)

Clare County Council has today (Monday, 28 December 2015) issued a flood and storm warning for the entire county in advance of severe weather conditions that are expected during the next 48-72 hours.

The Clare Emergency Coordination Group, comprising Clare County Council, Clare Fire and Rescue Service, Clare Civil Defence and An Garda Síochána, met this afternoon and will convene again early Tuesday.

The agencies are warning of a significant risk of localised flooding in all parts of County Clare as a result of a combination of strong gale to storm force southerly winds, heavy rainfall, High Tides and already saturated ground.

Motorists also are being advised to avoid unnecessary travel on Tuesday night and during Wednesday as all roads are at risk of being flooded.  Clare County Council says standard operating and response procedures are in place in the event of flooding incidents occurring.

Meanwhile, Clare County Council has received confirmation from the ESB that the spill rate at Parteen Weir will remain at 405 cubic metres per second (cumecs) during Monday.

The Council says water levels along the Lower River Shannon have risen considerably in recent days and further water level increases are anticipated

Clare County Council, assisted by Clare Civil Defence, is continuing to maintain a presence at Springfield, Clonlara, where up to a dozen properties are accessible only by boat.

The Council says that water levels along the Lower River Shannon are likely to increase further in the coming days due to anticipated further increases in discharge levels at Parteen Weir and Met Éireann’s forecast of heavy rainfall.

Flooding advice is available on www.flooding.ie.
