Council may have no significant role in Shannon Steering Group

It seems Clare County Council or other local bodies won’t play any significant role in the initial development of Shannon Airport as a independent entity.

Speaking to Clare FM The Finance Minister has indicated that a six person task force leaked to a national newspaper over the weekend are correct, despite confusion on the matter.

The group includes New Quay woman and Bord Gais chairman Rose Hyne, as well as three others with extensive aviation experience but no representative at local level.

Last week Clare County Council said it was essential the local authority was represented on the new steering group set to oversee the establishment of an independent Shannon Airport.

However Minister Noonan has indicated that the details contained in an article in the Irish Times on Saturday are not wide of the mark.
