Council seeking stricter conditions on windfarm proposal

The developers behind proposals for a major wind-farm development in West Clare look set to face further challenges in securing planning permission.

Clare Coastal Wind Power has applied for permission to develop the 45 turbine windfarm in and around Sragh, Doonbeg and the application is being dealt with by An Bord Pleanala, due to its scale.

But Clare County Council is making a number of submissions on the proposal, including calls for strict conditions regarding the cost of maintaining and repairing local roads, due to fears for adverse impacts from construction traffic in the area.

The Council is also seeking commitments regarding the management of peat removal if the wind farm goes ahead, and has set out it’s view that the development is not in keeping with the local wind energy plan.

West Clare Councillor Oliver Garry says the Doonbeg plans are causing controversy among locals
