Council to face grilling over Northern Distributor Route

Representatives of the South East Clare area will demand answers from Clare County Council today as to how the controversial proposed route for the Limerick Northern Distributor Road was chosen.

It follows a public protest in Parteen at the weekend, where local residents along with those from the neighbouring communities of Ardnacrusha and Clonlara gathered to highlight their opposition to the 100 million euro road project.

Protesters expressed concern that the proposed route could split the parish of Parteen, divide local farms and even demolish some people’s homes, while also running close to flood prone areas in Clonlara.

They’re also annoyed that Clare County Council hasn’t explained its reasons for choosing the route, which are contained in a "constraints study document" that local councillors haven’t been given access to.
