Council Urged To Fill Void Left By Closure Of Clare SPCA

Calls have been made on Clare County Council to fill what’s been described as a “vacuum,” following the winding down of the Clare SPCA.

The local branch of the animal protection group was closed down in recent weeks, after it had been in existence for nearly 40 years.

Amid concerns that this could leave animals in danger, Ennis Councillor Johnny Flynn has called on the local authority to liaise with other animal rights groups with a view to filling the void.

The Council has no legal responsability in this area – it oversees the control of dogs and horses only – but Councillor Flynn wants them to step in.
