Council Urged To Learn From The Past When Deciding On “Road To Nowhere”

Clare County Council is being urged to learn from mistakes of the past when making a decision on the so-called "road to nowhere" in Ennis.

It's hoped the completion of the multi-million euro route connecting Ennis Information Age Park with the Northern Relief Road will lead to a major jobs boost for the county in the coming years.

But An Taisce has expressed concerns that sinkholes could form under the road due to the geology of the area and that a flooding problem similar to the rail line at Ballycar could arise.

Clare County Council is due to make a decision on the route later this month and Heritage Officer with An Taisce, Ian Lumley says its important that an investigation is carried out into ground conditions in the area.
