Clare County Council says it’s not in a position to scale back water rates charges, even though they are more expensive here than in other counties.
Businesses here are being charged two-euro-eighty-nine for each cubic metre of water used, compared to just one euro in Galway and one euro ten in Kerry – standing charges in Clare are also higher than in many other local authority areas.

Local representatives also claim that collection rates here are at just 40%.
