The National Roads Authority has come under fire for it’s role in the gritting of routes in the county.

The Authority was heavily criticised by members of Clare County Council, concerned Clare is being disregarded when it comes to receiving a share of the national supply of salt and grit.
The local authority insists it is taking steps to reduce the potential impact of further bouts of freezing weather – 2 new gritting machines have been ordered, while it’s expected that construction of a ‘salt barn’ will be completed in the new year.
However East Clare Councillor Joe Cooney thinks that more needs to be done at a national level also.
