Clare County Councillors were paid an average of nearly €29,500 last year.
Figures published in today's Irish Independent show the 32 local representatives shared €940,000.

Current Mayor, Ruan Fine Gael Councillor Joe Arkins received the highest amount in 2013, with just over €41,000 while his predecessor, Fianna Fáil's Pat Daly of Ennis, received just over €40,000.
Councillors are paid an annual salary of €16,500, and can also claim a range of expenses, while Mayors, Deputy Mayors and the chairs of some Committees are also given allowances.
