The Environment Minister says he will publish the regulations for changing the property tax rates in the coming weeks.

Newly-elected councillors will have the power from next year to adjust the tax up or down by up to 15 percent in each of their areas.

Minister Hogan says councillors will have to decide what services they want, and how such services can be paid for by the property tax.

"You now see the fruits of the type of decisions that are going to be made in the context of the financial autonomy for councillors where there'll have to make very important decisions about the level of service that they wish to see across the board, in relation to these services" he said.

"That obviously will influence then the level of property tax that they wish to apply in their administrative area" he added.
