Clare undertakers have welcomed the County Council's decision not to grant permission for the construction of a crematorium and graveyard on the outskirts of Ennis.
The project, which was to be developed by a UK-backed firm, would have seen a crematorium, large cemetery and other associated works at Ballaghfadda on the Kildysart Road.

However, Councillors who were asked to re-zone the site in question rejected the plan with a margin of just four votes at their meeting this morning.
