The Taoiseach has urged the people of South East Clare to remain calm and sensible about the possible extension of Limerick City into County Clare.
It follows calls from the Mayor of Clare, Christy Curtin, "to Leave County Clare alone", as he addressed Brian Cowen and other government representatives at the opening of the new Limerick Tunnel.
A report by the Limerick Local Government Committee has been presented to the Environment Minister, and is thought to propose the inclusion of the Clare communities of Shannon Banks and Westbury in an enlarged Limerick Local Authority.
But speaking to Clare FM, the Taoiseach didn’t comment on it’s contents, but said the government will take a rational approach to the contentious issue in full consultation with representatives from Clare and Limerick
