GAA Clubs In Clare Could Play “Major Role” In Drugs Education

It’s claimed GAA clubs across Clare can be used as part of efforts to educate young people about the dangers of drugs.

This week has seen nine of the country’s former drugs ministers come together in an effort to encourage the government to adopt a new approach to tackling the rise in drugs detections.

They’re concerned that local groups are being left out of the loop when it comes to decision-making, while figures have revealed that the greatest rise in drug use is outside of Dublin, despite the bulk of funding going to the capital.

Sixmilebridge Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan O’Callaghan, who is also a publican, feels education needs to form a major part of community efforts and starting in GAA clubs is a simple start:
