Criticism as funding granted to Northern Distributor road project

There are calls for the half a million euro allocated to the proposed Limerick Northern Distributor Road Project to immediately redirected for use on existing routes in South East Clare.

Local representatives, who are opposed to the road project  believe the money would be better spent in other areas than on a development they describe as aspirational and unnecessary.

Once completed, the Northern Distributor Road project will link Coonagh with Parteen and Ardnacrusha before crossing the River Shannon to the North of the University of Limerick and onwards to the Old Limerick/Dublin Road

This week, the government granted Clare County Council half a million euro to further progress it’s portion of the controversial development which has already raised concerns from some local residents groups in South East Clare

However,Local Fianna Fail Councillor Cathal Crowe thinks that money could be better spend elsewhere.
