Criticism OverLength of Home Help Waiting List in Clare

A Clare Home Help operator says the long waiting list could be erradicated if the HSE allocated more hours to the county.

Almost 400 people are waiting on hours from the service here, that's significantly above just under 200 in North Tipperary and Limerick Combined.

According to the HSE's own figures 225 people are waiting on assistance while a further 82 have requested additional hours in the county.

That means 390 people are waiting on the service in County Clare – significantly about neighbours Limerick on 113 and North Tipperary on 71

General Manager of Clare Care Fiachra Hensey says the issues could be resolved if more money could be found.

Home Help workers provide day to day care for people with long term health issues.

The scheme helps people stay in their own house and not move to a medical facility.

The HSE says it recognises the issues in Clare is has prioritised the provision of the service here.

However, Chair of the HSE's Health Forum West and Ennis area Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom McNamara says the situation is not acceptable.
