The feast day, on the first day of Spring, dates back to the pagan season of 'Imbolc', one of four 'fire festivals' of the year.
It's been a day of pilgrimage for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and the tradition is still alive in Lisacannor, where people begun arriving early this morning for this afternoon's mass and procession to St Brigid's Well.
