Crowe claims O Dea resignation “black day in politics”

Willie O Dea’s resignation has been described as a black day in politics by a Clare colleague who worked closely with the former defence minister.

Mr Dea resigned last night amid mounting controversy over a sworn affidavit he gave to the High Court which turned out to be false.

The former minister said he had come to the conclusion that his continuing in office would distract from the important and vital work of the Government.

South East Clare Councillor Cathal Crowe who worked closely with Willie O’Dea as he represented Clare residents in the Ardnacrusha, Shannon Banks and Westbury areas, regards him as a close friend and the reason he entered politics.
Councillor Crowe says he’s deeply shocked by Mr O Dea’s resignation and has described it as a black day in irish politics.
