Calls are being made in Clare for a database to be kept of all illegal encampments that pop up in this county.
Clarecastle Councillor Paul Murphy has raised concerns about the number of these settlements that come into existence around the county, in terms of the housing needs of residents.
However, Clare County Council has said it has no legal basis to compile and maintain such a database at this time and that currently, focus is on providing housing solutions for those on their housing list.

Fine Gael Councillor Murphy wants to see extra powers rolled out locally to deal with illegal encampments, like the recent one at the Skehanagh Roundabout near Ennis.
