Cutbacks at Cliffs of Moher

Management at the Cliffs of Moher say there’ll be no redundancies among staff, after employees agreed to large pay cuts and reduced working hours.

Cost cutting talks have been ongoing with 24 staff at Clare’s world famous tourist attraction, in a bid to counteract a projected deficit of 200,000 euro in the year ahead as the recession and reduced visitor numbers take their toll on local tourism.

Staff at the Cliffs have now agreed to a three day week or an 18% pay cut and costs are to be cut in other areas.

But manager Katherine Webster says current opening hours and high standards will be maintained to welcome more visitors despite the downturn.
