Cyclist injured in Newmarket on Fergus Accident

A woman is being treated in hospital following a road accident near Newmarket on Fergus.

The cyclist from Sixmilebridge suffered serious arm injuries following a collision with a lorry on the Ballycar Road at Granahan last evening.

This incident occurred when a group of cyclists met a lorry near Fenloe Lake on the road between Newmarket of Fergus and Sixmilebridge at around 6 o'clock last evening.

 

Gardai believe the cyclists may have collided and one of them fell onto the road where she was struck by the passing lorry.

 

The Sixmilebridge woman in her forties was airlifted to hospital in Galway.

 

Her injuries are not said to be life threatening but she suffered serious damage to her hand and arm.

 

Gardai in Shannon are investigating and have spoken to the cyclists and lorry driver as part of their inquiries.
