Ennis Town Council will today decide whether pedestrianisation trials in the town will be scrapped.
Several businesses claim they have suffered a drop in Saturday trade of 40 to 60 per cent because of the car free scheme and are calling for it to be scrapped just six weeks in
Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn has proposed a motion against pedestrianisation as he claims its leading to job losses in Clare’s County Town.
Meanwhile an opinion poll on the clare.fm website on pedestrianisation has found that 60 percent of respondents would like to see the initiative made permanent.
12 per cent believe it should only be implemented on a Saturday while 11 per cent are against pedestrianising the main shopping streets of Ennis.
