DAA deny its stifling Shannon Airport growth

The head of the DAA has strongly rejected suggestions that the authority has held back the development of Shannon Airport over the years.

Speaking before the Oireachtas Transport Committee Declan Collier said that 230 million Euro has been invested in the Mid West Airport since 1997 with a hundred million of that in the past five years alone.

The CEO of the Dublin Airport Authority was being quizzed by Clare TDs including Timmy Dooley and Fine Gael’s Joe Carey and Pat Breen in the wake of 2009 figures which show passenger numbers at the three airports fell by over 13 percent with Shannon taking the biggest hit

Mr Collier rejected claims that the  Dublin Airport Authority doesn’t given management at Shannon Airport full autonomy and added the airport has a budget of around 95 million Euro.

He also stated that the authority is to launch a significant marketing campaign to boost pre clearance facilities at Shannon and talks regarding the Lynx project are ongoing.
