Debate Sought On Community Employment Criteria

There are calls for a debate over the criteria for the Community Employment Scheme which has assisted in the provision of a range of works in communities throughout the county.

Currently, those participating in CE schemes must return to the live register after they reach a certain age or after six years involvement, regardless of age.

This means that each of those individuals lost out on the 20 euro per week that they are paid as a result of being on the scheme, but Clare Fianna Fáil Senator Timmy Dooley says the loss to communities is far grater.

The East Clare Senator has highlighted how one local scheme can no longer fill their places as many people are no longer eligible.
