Two men will have their sentences for the manslaughter of a Lissycasey native reviewed, after their jail terms were judged to be too lenient.
Harry Dinan, of Waterpark Heights, Ennis and his nephew Kevin Dinan of Clarehill, Clarecastle were jailed for five and four years respectively for killing Brian Casey at O’Connell Square, Ennis on St. Stephen’s night 2009.
The DPP challenged the sentences and at The Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday Mr Justice Liam McKechnie described the attack on Mr Casey as cowardly and reprehensible.
The court then ruled the jail terms handed down were insufficient and that the sentencing judge had made a mistake in twice, giving the Dinans credit for the fact this was a ‘one punch’ type case and thus reducing their sentences
The men will have their prison terms reviewed at a later date.
