Diocese of Killaloe Parishioners Air Concerns Over No Female Deacons

A senior figure within the Diocese of Killaloe has admitted that some of his women parishoners are unhappy that they're not able to become deacons.

A new programme being introduced in the Diocese will see Deacons become a more common sight, as is already the case in a number of other Irish Dioceses and other countries.

They will preside over ceremonies including baptisms, weddings and funerals and both married and single men could be ordained, though women will not.

Kildysart Priest Fr Albert McDonnell is leading the initiative and says this aspect of the plan has provoked discussion amongst his parishoners.
