There’s been a dip in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital today.
The latest figures from the INMO show 40 people were waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 25 of those in the emergency department.
The Dooradoyle facility remains one of the busiest in the country, on a day when 575 people were left waiting on trolleys.
The numbers coincide with winter flu season, with 11 cases of the virus confirmed at UHL, where visiting restrictions remain in place.
One visitor per patient only is permitted during visitor hours and families are asked to keep children away from the hospital, while management are also urging people to contact their GP in the first instance if they have flu-like symptoms.
