The Co-Ordinator of Clare’s Immigrant Support Centre believes the government’s white paper on abolishing direct provision will provide a higher standard of care to asylum seekers here.
A new plan from the State plans to close all centres by 2024, replacing it with a system that will see six state-owned integration centres established, and own-door accommodation provided.
There are currently 38 direct provision centres in Ireland – three of which are operating in Ennis, Lisdoonvarna and Knockalisheen.
