Dismay Over Relocation Of Maternity Services To Dooradoyle Campus

A Clare Fianna Fáil election candidate says he's firmly against the relocation of maternity services to the campus of University Hospital Limerick.

The announcement was made as part of the Government's Capital Spending Plan which will see 27 million euro invested in a number of projects around the country.

Michael McDonagh says the site at Dooradoyle is already overcrowded und underfunded and he fears that maternity staff, who are also trained in general medicine, will be called in to cover the main hospital in times of emergency.

He's calling for investment in a new building adjacent to the site of the current maternity hospital instead.
