A search is underway for a diver who went missing while exploring caves on the outskirts of Gort .
The alarm was raised after the man – who went into the inland caves at Kiltartan at around 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon- failed to re-emerge last night-
It’s understood the diver is a polish national and had enough oxygen in his tanks to last until half nine.
A diver from the Irish Cave Rescue Unit which is based in Doolin went into the caves at around 11 o’clock but resurfaced two hours later after no sign of the man was found.
However its understood he reported the caves to be flooded to a depth of 52 metres – A search by another member of the ICR in Kiltartan is expected to resume later this morning.
Conor McGrath – A warden for Irish Cave Rescue in the Clare area says a search of the cave was conducted by a friend and colleague from Ennis but no trace of the polish man was found.
The ICR is now waiting for a number of experienced divers to arrive on scene this morning before resuming the search
