Clare’s opposition TD is calling on the government to scrap changes to the Disadvantaged Area Scheme
The changes, which have been approved by the EU Commission, include a retrospective requirement to have had a stocking density of 0.3 livestock units per hectare for three consecutive months in 2011 – double the previous rate
Farmers wishing to avail of a derogation in the DAS now have until the end of this week to send in their applications, and failure to do so could mean a loss in income of up to 3 thousand euro in certain cases
Mountshannon Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley says while the extended deadline is welcome – the changes to the scheme are putting undue pressure on farmers in Clare during one of the worst years on record
