Clare’s Fianna Fail TD has called for tougher fines for financial institutions who mishandle customers’ complaints.
Figures released this week show the number of complaints to the Financial Services Ombudsman increased by over a quarter in the first half of the year, prompting the government to call on banks to pay more respect to the public.

Clare TD Timmy Dooley says the figures are evidence of ‘an unacceptable culture within the banking system’, and feels the only way this will change is if banks are penalised.
