Dooley Says Ball Is In Independents Court

Clare's Fianna Fail TD insists the onus is on Independents and smaller parties to make their preference for Taoiseach clear.

The comments from Deputy Timmy Dooley come as the Fianna Fáil leader says he phoned the Acting Taoiseach this lunchtime, as efforts continue to form a coalition Government.

During a 20 minute call, Mr Martin says he objected to a suggestion in one newspaper this morning that the vote for Taoiseach could be cancelled next Wednesday.

He also discussed with Enda Kenny the fact that both parties were engaged in discussions with Independents and they agreed there would be further contact between them after next weeks vote.

Mr Kenny is understood to have told Independents in discussions this afternoon that he in fact offered to meet Mr Martin tomorrow.
